| Floor Preparation "Know what you are paying for" |
 |
One of the most important aspects in providing a quality epoxy floor installation is the proper surface preparation.
Some of the things that First Class Coatings inc. does to insure proper adhesion is to properly prepare each individual floor to its own specific needs. As each and every floor is different, so will the proper preparation techniques. Most floors installed by us will have a Double Acid Bath at a very high acid content to ensure adhesion. We Secondly use a highly effective degreaser and buff the floor clean with a high intensity cleaning pad. The acid is neutralized clean, and second proprietary chemical is used to further clean the soiled surface.
Once the floor is thoroughly cleaned. We will dry the floor. After we mechanically dry the surface. We will patch imperfections, and major to minor divots in the concrete. We patch the floor with a fast cure epoxy paste to ensure durability.
All expansion joints will be filled ½ way up to create a round reservoir for easier cleaning and the hiding of seem cracks.
We also fill in the expansion joints connecting the stem walls to the garage floor . (MOST CONTACTORS OR AMATURE INSTALLERS WILL NOT DO THIS) This step will make the garage insect tight and truly makes the floor more aesthetically appealing. |
 |
After the floor is completely detailed patched and repaired, we will sand the floor to ensure the coating will have an extra means of “Bite” also refereed to floor adhesion.
In some cases, we may even put a light grind to the surface to further enhance the bonding capability. Grinding will open the cavities of the concrete to allow for better and deeper penetration of the primer coating. Sometimes this has an extra charge.
Leveling-Grinding may be required to repair unlevel concrete. This is used in situations where there are larger cracks in the floor that one piece of concrete has risen higher than the other side.
Note: If there is a sealer or a peeling coating previously installed. It may be necessary to have that coating removed. Most of the time, this service will be provided at an extra fee. If a Home Depot, or Loews coating has been previously installed, it is recommended to have it removed if you would like to take advantage of a full warranty. Sometimes we can go over existing epoxy installations, however, we can not guarantee the life of the first coating adhesion to the concrete and how long it may take till it may potentially peel. As a limited and or shorter warranty period will be provided if going over an existing coating if it is not removed. |
